THE SEEKER
The True Story of a Desperate Young Man’s Unhinged Search for Truth and Purpose
(Currently pursuing representation)
Broken teenager Felix Andrews is sure there is no God… that is until his experiences with psychedelic drugs reveal reality is inherently spiritual. He briefly waxes near to, then wanes from God. Ravenously curious, Felix doubles down on dropping LSD as a spiritual practice. Demons take advantage of this and lead him astray into the occult. Within months, his life is in shambles. Felix throws away his opportunities and is cut off from his family. The agony of cognitive dissonance drives his chaotic search for truth onward. Soon, he is homeless and confused, living in his unregistered car while working tirelessly to cure cancer before he completely runs out of money. He has lost his mind. His life has failed. What hope could he possibly have?
This narrative nonfiction/memoir manuscript is complete at 89,000 words. The Seeker is a collection of vignettes told in the present tense in order to imprison the reader within Felix’s head at the time of each event. The past tense would sanitize and moralize Felix’s history. Written especially for the sake of a pre-Christian audience, The Seeker is about exploring ideas and stretching them to their logical conclusions. Ultimately, the sufficiency of Christ is displayed.
The Church is in need of representative stories which acknowledge the draw of psychedelic experiences, only to then demonstrate the superior spiritual power that comes from radically seeking after Jesus.
Matthew 7:7-8
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”
Youth homelessness and psychedelic drug use are astoundingly common in America. One of ten adults between the ages of 18 and 25 experience homelessness each year. Hallucinogen use is currently at the highest rate ever recorded. One in four US adults have used a psychedelic drug at some point. Eight percent have used a psychedelic drug in the past year. This rate is highest in men. Our culture has a growing fascination with psychedelic drugs, using them to achieve what they see as meaningful and life-altering experiences. This story provides a bridge for psychedelic users and curious minds to make it all the way to a transformative belief in Christ. The message The Seeker inevitably portrays is that there is, in fact, one ultimate reality and that, if sought, it can be uncovered.
